SMO Documentation

The patient has been prescribed a Supramalleolar orthosis designed and to be dispensed for
the purpose of:

• Stabilization of the subtalar joint
• Maximize appropriate alignment for ambulation
• Prevent progression of ankle /foot deformity

• Copolymer, and carbon fiber composite

Mobility and treatment Goals:

• Increase gait velocity.
• Improve mobility.
• Improve stability.
• Improve balance.
• Decrease pain/discomfort and risk of deformity

The SMO will also include the use of a molded inner boot for the purpose of

1. Providing total contact positioning of the calcaneus and arch complex
2. Decreasing shear forces and elevated pressure on the soft tissue
3. Improving the biomechanical application of corrective forces

The procedure used to prepare the device will include a negative cast and lab fabrication
from a patient model.
